Man already in jail charged again

SALISBURY — Authorities charged a Rockwell man already in jail with involvement in the theft of car parts.

Authorities said before Clayton Travis Brown, 25, of 309 Carolyn Ave., Rockwell, was arrested in late October for a home break-in, he took car parts from a local salvage yard.

Brown was charged with five counts obtaining property by false pretenses.

Brown was already in the Rowan County Detention Center for a previous arrest in late October. On Oct. 26, Brown was arrested after he was spotted running from a Starnes Farm Road home with guns and jewelry. Brown and a female were charged in that incident.

On Oct. 6, James Kluttz, the owner of a salvage yard in Woodleaf, told law enforcement someone stole more than 300 vehicle starters and alternators that were eventually sold to Foils Inc., at Klumac Road.

On Nov. 9, investigators went to SMR Core & Metal at Statesville Boulevard, where they obtained receipts of items belonging to Foils Inc.

Investigators connected Brown to the thefts after his home was searched and parts belonging to Foils Inc. were found. The items had been engraved with Kluttz’s name on them.

Other arrests are pending in this investigation.
