SALISBURY - Authorities said a China Grove man stole about $250,000 in an embezzlement scheme that lasted several years.
Capt. John Sifford, of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, said 49-year-old Barry Glenn Hobbs was taken into custody Friday.
He was charged with 29 counts of felony embezzlement and one count of felony financial card fraud.
Investigator Sam Henline filed charges against Hobbs after meeting with business owner Theresa Richardson of Theresa's Concrete Services on Gheen Road.
Henline reviewed copies of checks, bank statements and other financial data documents during the investigation.
An arrest report said Richardson was "shocked to find that apparently Mr. Hobbs had taken money from the company over the course of several years."
Financial inaccuracies came to light during a company-wide audit, report said. The amount was initially listed as a "large sum."
The company's website listed Hobbs as the chief operating officer.
He remains in Rowan County jail under a $500,000 bond.
