SALISBURY — Two employees at Jersey Mike’s Subs are being investigated for embezzlement of $25,000 over the last two years.

According to Jersey Mike’s manager Andrea Goddard, the corporate franchise red-flagged the business after accounting irregularities came up. The franchise notified owner Ken Hartpence about the issue, Goddard said, and then sent an employee in undercover on Thursday to investigate the incident.

“A secret shopper came in, and they did not ring her up,” Goddard said. “She paid cash and they did not put the money in the drawer. She watched them. That’s when they were totally busted.”

Goddard said Hartpence received a call from the corporation Thursday night.

Hartpence could not be reached for comment.

“We came up here that night and counted the drawer,” she said, “and confronted them.”

Goddard filed the embezzlement claim with Salisbury Police Department about noon Monday.

“I filed it Monday because I had to get all my information gathered,” Goddard said.

No one has been charged yet, but Salisbury Police Department investigators said the investigation is ongoing and they do expect arrests.

According to the report, the embezzlement dates back to August 2009.
