SALISBURY — A 16-year-old Henderson Independent High School student was charged after an argument started on the school bus Monday afternoon.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Donavan Donte Sherrill was taken into custody during an altercation in a parking lot near the intersection of Mooresville and Miller roads.
Deputy D.P. Myers said Sherrill was cursing and waving his arms when he arrived.
After speaking with witnesses, the report said, officers believed Sherrill had made threats to the bus driver.
Sherrill struggled with the officer when Myers attempted to handcuff him and hit him in the “chest and left cheek with his head,” the report said.
Sherrill then began cursing at officers and rocking a deputy’s cruiser after he was taken into custody. He was then placed into leg restraints.
Sherrill, of 480 Joe Rankin Road, Mt. Ulla, was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer, resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer, disorderly conduct and communicating threats.
The report did not say what started the argument.
Sherrill was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
