Five arrested during traffic stop

LANDIS — Five passengers in a Ford Explorer were arrested Tuesday morning after deputies said the SUV was stolen.

Deputy J.W. McHone checked the vehicle’s license plate around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 29 and Daugherty Road. The vehicle was registered to a Reba Petit.

But when officers stopped the car, they found Petit’s daughter, 25-year-old Ashley Petit, along with four others.

Deputies charged the driver, 23-year-old Bobbie Sue Hood, and Petit with felony possession of a stolen vehicle. They were placed under a $5,000 bond.

Deputies searched the vehicle and found drug paraphernalia in the SUV and a syringe filled with liquid heroin in 18-year-old John McKinney’s possession, according to arrest reports.

He was later charged with felony possession of heroin and given a $10,000 bond.

Another man, 22-year-old David McKinney, was found to have outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court in Johnson County, Tenn., and Mitchell County.

He was charged with felony fugitive from justice and given a $10,360 bond.

David McKinney, Hood and Petit are from Tennessee. John McKinney’s address was listed as the streets of Landis.

Arrest reports did not say if the two McKinneys are related.

A fifth passenger, Russell Wright, was arrested on an order for arrest from Cabarrus County on two separate charges of possession of narcotics.

He was released after posting a $500 bond.
