SALISBURY — Police are searching for a gunman who tried to rob a man as he cleaned a parking lot on Jake Alexander Boulevard.

The would-be robber walked up to the 66-year-old early Friday morning and asked if the man needed help cleaning the parking lot at the Westland Shopping Center, a Salisbury Police report said.

When the man turned around to decline, officers said, the younger man pulled out a black handgun and demanded his wallet.

The 66-year-old turned to run away and the gunman fled to a nearby car.

Officers said the robber was a black male in his 20s with a light beard, between 6 feet and 6-foot-2 inches tall and weighing between 200 and 230 pounds. He wore a black hoodie

The car was a dark-colored, four-door 1990s model. The vehicle was last seen traveling toward Statesville Boulevard.

Nothing was taken during the attempted robbery.

Investigators ask anyone with information to contact the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
