Bergsma Eagle Award
Coleman Hill Bergsma, 14, is receiving his Eagle Award today, Jan. 29, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church. Scoutmaster Henry Trexler of Troop 443 is presenting the award.
Since joining Troop 443 in 2008, Coleman has earned the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle. Along with earning 26 merit badges, he was awarded the Space Exploration Award in 2009 and the National Patrol Award in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2010, he also was elected to Order of the Arrow, BSA’s National Honor Society for experienced campers. Coleman has served as Chaplain Aide, Librarian and Patrol Leader.
A ninth-grader at Woodberry Forest School, Woodberry Forest, Va., he is an honor roll student; a member of the Junior Varsity Cross Country team; a starter for the ninth grade basketball team; and participates in Christian Fellowship. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Salisbury.
Coleman’s Eagle project was organizing 14 volunteers for a non-perishable food drive to benefit Rowan Helping Ministries.
The son of Don and Elizabeth Bergsma of Salisbury, he is the grandson of Don and Claudia Bergsma of Madisonville, La., and Henry and Missy Brown of Southern Pines.
