Former Catawba College soccer buddies Sam Ketner and Nathan Brown have decided to take on the car business with a new consignment lot at 1330 W. Jake Alexander Blvd.

The Auto House of Salisbury opened at the first of the month with about 10 cars and the owners plan to have about 40 to 50 vehicles on site to choose from. Their three plans are 30-, 60- and 90-day packages that are meant to sell cars on consignment.

Brown noted that they handle paperwork, financing and shipping details for customers and use various Web sites to help advertise a seller's vehicle.

Ketner said he knew of only one other dealership on the East Coast offering consignment deals like what he's offering.

Some other area businesses have consignment deals, such as Whitley's Auto Sales in China Grove. Jim Whitley said most customers rent space for 30 days for $50 and then they agree on a certain percentage of the sale price.

Ketner and Brown, who both graduated from Catawba in December, plan a grand opening celebration Oct. 25.

The lot is in the former Kori Homes location across Jake Alexander Boulevard from the Wingfoot business.

The phone number is 704-638-6090. The Web site is www.autohouseofsalisbury.com.
