Debbie Barnhardt and Jody Dagenhart of Salisbury have completed classes at Sawtooth in Winston-Salem in precious metal clay.

Metal clay is a medium used to make jewelry, beads and small sculpture. It consists of small particles of precious metals (such as silver or gold) mixed with an organic binder and water. It was developed in the early 1990s in Japan by metallurgist Dr. A Morikawa.

Barnhardt will be using the material in her custom work in silver. Dagenhart will be designing pieces in silver. Barnhardt will carry her designs in her Spencer shop.

Barnhardt and Andrea Cornatzer have taken classes on laser welding in Florida. The shop can now do repairs that couldn't be made with a torch, including costume jewelry, pewter and eyeglass.
