WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Authorities are still cleaning up after a tractor-trailer hauling small arms ammunitions wrecked on a North Carolina highway.

Officials said southbound U.S. 52 on the north side of Winston-Salem was closed after the wreck and long delays were expected for Friday morning commuters.

Police said the truck was hauling 40,000 pounds of ammunition when it wrecked Thursday night. The truck crashed through a guard rail and plunged down an embankment, spilling diesel fuel.

The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
