Students are dropping out of Rowan-Salisbury high schools at a higher rate than 10 years ago. But the option of working at textile mills has been replaced with jobs that require more education, making it more important than ever for students to earn a high school diploma.
The Rowan-Salisbury School System is taking action. But school leaders must reverse a decades-long mentality that good jobs are available without an education.
This series — which willl continue Tuesday and Thursday — focuses on two students who dropped out. A third student's story reveals the determination of a young woman to stay in school, in spite of extra challenges.
