As Rowan County residents prepare to belly up for their annual Thanksgiving feast, they can work up an appetite for the holidays with two parades this week.

The Southern Rowan Christmas parade starts off the festivities today at 3:30 p.m. in Landis. It begins at Main and First streets and moves north through the town on Main Street. At 4:30 p.m., the parade continues north on Main Street through China Grove. This year's parade includes about 110 entries.

The 50th annual Holiday Caravan steps off at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Spencer, heading south on Salisbury Avenue. The parade resumes at 3 p.m. in Salisbury, where it travels south on Main Street. It's a joint effort of the Spencer Jaycees and the Rowan Business Alliance. For more information or to reserve seating, log on to www.holidaycaravanparade.com.

Parade lovers have a couple to attend next week, too.

The Cleveland Christmas parade, sponsored by the Cleveland Lions Club, will be Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. The parade will begin at the east end of town near the former YMCA and end near Cleveland Elementary School. The parade usually includes around 100 entries.

The Kannapolis Christmas Parade also takes place Dec. 5. It will begin at 4 p.m.

After the parade, the city will host the annual tree lighting, with fireworks, in Village Park at 7 p.m. Activities will begin at 6:30.

The Kannapolis Intimidators baseball team is organizing the parade.
