Salisbury Massage moves

Salisbury Therapeutic Massage has moved to 116 E. Council St., suite six.

The business includes three therapists specializing in health, wellness and massage therapy. Mary Zimmerman is the owner and a therapist. Mary Gillespie and Cindy Corby, RN, are also therapists. Zimmerman, Gillespie and Corby are all licensed through the state and nationally certified. The three are also graduates from Blue Ridge Healing Arts Academy.

Zimmerman started the business in 2000 on Fisher Street, which was the first street-front massage facility in Salisbury.

Salisbury Therapeutic Massage offers Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, geriatric massage, medical massage, hot/cold stone massage, peri- and pre- natal massage, reflexology, quantum touch, seated chair massage, facials and facial massage.

Salisbury Therapeutic Massage offers Christmas packages and corporate rates to go to offices for massages. The general rate for a one hour massage is $60.

Santa, Mickey and Minnie to raise money for Toys for Tots

Applebee's Grill and Bar of Salisbury is hosting a fundraiser for Toys for Tots Dec. 12 and 13 from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Children and adults will be able to visit with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Santa Claus for a $6 donation, which also includes breakfast. Proceeds will go to Toys for Tots.

State Farm agents collecting toys

Local State Farm agents are partnering with Rowan Helping Ministries and Toys for Tots this holiday season to create awareness and reach out to the needs in the community.

Three State Farm Insurance locations are accepting food donations for Rowan Helping Ministries and toys for Toys for Tots. Toys can be dropped off at 530 E. Innes St., Suite 100; 425 Faith Rd. and 638 Statesville Ave.

Comfort Keepers accepting donations for national food drive

The Salisbury branch of Comfort Keepers, located at 1717 W. Innes St., will accept donations for the national food drive Feeding America.

Comfort Keepers will accept donations at their office Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Dec. 15.

Recommended foods for donations include peanut butter, low-sodium canned vegetables and soups and protein-rich meal substitutes.

Feed America provides food to senior citizens across America.

Donations for Meals on Wheels

BJ's Charitable Foundation, as part of its quarterly giving schedule, donated $5,000 to Meals on Wheels of Rowan Inc. in Salisbury. The donation will provide support just in time for the holidays.

The $5,000 donation will pay for meals for an entire year, which is equivalent to three meals a day on an average of 22 delivery days a month.

BJ's Charitable Foundation donated a total of $492,700 to 68 nonprofits throughout its footprint.

Animal Control officers go to training

Rowan County Animal Control Officers Clai Martin, Ann Frye and David Heilig recently attended the 34th Annual North Carolina Animal/Rabies Control Association's 2009 Training Conference in Concord.

During the three days at the conference, officers attended workshops on topics including animal cruelty/breeder issues, legal updates, the N.C. Animal Welfare Act, wildlife handling, animal capture/equipment, media relations, shelter cleaning and rabies in the state.

Farm Bureau agents receive national recognition

Dennis Rogers and Wesley Cook have received the National Multiline Sales Award from the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

This award is given to multiline agents who achieve significant growth in life and property and casualty applications.

To be eligible, agents must have $20,000 of new paid life premium with a minimum of 15 new applications or 40 new life applications, and 250 new property and casualty policies issued. They must also cross- sell 100 applications of an additional line for new and existing clients.
