Shawn Miguel Clark, 36, of China Grove, was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly assaulting an officer during a traffic stop.
According to police reports, Clark was charged with resisting a public officer, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for a controlled substance, assault on a government official and injury to personal property.
Rowan County Sheriff's Deputy O.A. Greene conducted a traffic stop on Clark after finding his vehicle had a fictitious plate and revoked registration/license.
According to the arrest report, Greene found Clark to be in possession of marijuana and asked him not to move and to put his hands behind his back. Clark allegedly ran away from Greene.
Rowan County Sheriff's deputy M. Causey and Greene allegedly chased Clark on foot before arresting him.
At some point during the pursuit or arrest, Clark hit an officer with his fist once in the ribs, and twice in the chest. He also caused damage to personal property — a pair of pants costing $200.
Deputies reported Clark was found to be in possession of 25 grams of marijuana, which is a schedule VI controlled substance. He was given a $10,000 secured bond.
