Home Instead Senior Care is organizing its annual Be a Santa to a Senior program.
Last year, community donations provided more than 200 gift packages to Rowan County seniors who are lonely, isolated or financially challenged.
"We could not accomplish this without the support of many local citizens. We applaud all of the hard work, love and smiles that went into each package these seniors received," said co-owner of Home Instead Senior Care, Jena Hare.
Home Instead Senior Care is asking people to participate as they work to reach even more seniors this year.
This is how the program works:
- Area nonprofit agenices provide the names of seniors in the community and provide a completed wish list from each senior.
- The name of a senior (first name only) will adorn an ornament that will decorate a tree at Walgreen stores from now until Dec. 9. Citizens will select an ornament , which contains the senior's wish list items. The purchased gifts are left with a store employee.
- Program volunteers regularly collect gifts and refresh the tree ornaments as needed. The items are delivered to a central location for the annual gift wrapping party and soon after delivered to the seniors.
Individuals, civic organizations, businesses or churches can adopt a senior for a Christmas project or join Home Instead Senior Care at their wrapping party. The date will be announced.
