MOCKSVILLE (AP) — More layoffs are being announced in the Winston-Salem area as companies adapt to an ailing economy.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports that Ingersoll-Rand Co. said Wednesday it would lay off 110 employees at its plant in Mocksville. A day earlier, Hanesbrands Inc. said it was cutting 155 jobs in Winston-Salem and would close a yarn plant in China Grove and eliminate 185 jobs.
Ingersoll-Rand employs 430 people at the Mocksville plant. The layoffs come as the company drops its in-house sheet-metal work. The plant will have 320 employees after the layoffs.
Ingersoll-Rand makes air compressors and other tools.
