Staff report

Three members of the family that operates the Mooresville Dragway in southwestern Rowan County have been charged with selling drugs from their home, a Rowan County Sheriff's Office press release said.

Jody Allen Leazer, 40, and Wendy Bateman Leazer, 37, each face charges of possession with intent to sell marijuana, trafficking opium by possession and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, along with other drug-related charges.

Corie Allen Leazer, 19, faces charges of possession with intent to sell marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges were made after a search of the Leazers' home at 865 Wilkinson Road, the press release said. Rowan County Sheriff's Office investigators executed a search warrant Tuesday after receiving information the Leazers were selling marijuana from their house, which is near the racetrack off N.C. 152.

At the residence, the investigators seized about 1.6 pounds of marijuana, 50 hydrocodone tablets, 19 oxycodone tablets, 82 morphine tablets, 4 alprazolam tablets and one semi-automatic pistol, the press release said.

Corie Leazer was arrested during the search. Jody and Wendy Leazer turned themselves in to authorities today. All were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center — Jody and Wendy Leazer under $5,000 bond apiece and Corie Leazer under $2,500 bond — but none remained there this afternoon.

Corie Leazer made a first appearance in court Thursday. Jody and Wendy Leazer are scheduled for to make their first court appearances Monday.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
