KANNAPOLIS — The Cabarrus Health Alliance will provide H1N1 vaccinations on Veteran's Day.

The first community-wide swine flu vaccination clinic in Kannapolis will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the health alliance, 1307 S. Cannon Boulevard.

The health alliance has 3,500 doses of vaccine, said Dr. William F. Pilkington, public health director.

Vaccine will be available for the following target groups, based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

- Pregnant women

- Household and caregiver contacts of children younger than 6 months of age (for example, parents, siblings and daycare providers)

- Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel

- People from 6 months through 24 years of age

- People aged 25 through 64 years who have medical conditions associated with a higher risk of influenza complication (diabetes, asthma, heart conditions, weakened immune system, etc.)

People are asked to bring their insurance cards, Medicare or Medicaid cards. No fee will be charged to the patient.

Anyone who presents with flu-like symptoms will not be eligible for vaccination.

The health alliance will offer additional clinics are more vaccine becomes available, Pilkington said.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
