Pfeiffer employees win awards

Several members from the Office of Student Development at Pfeiffer University recently received the R. Randy Rice Service Awards from the North Carolina Housing Officers Association.

The recipients were recognized for their commitment and service during an annual conference held Oct. 23 in Chapel Hill.

Daryl Bruner, director of counseling services; Havaleh Havelka, director of student life; Quinton McKissick, director of outdoor leadership and campus recreation; Sandy Miller, director of health services; and Paula Morris, administrative assistant, all received R. Randy Rice Service Awards, which are given annually to deserving staff who have gone beyond the call of duty and have demonstrated service that supports the mission, goals, and activities of residence life and housing programs at their respective institutions.

"When I arrived at Pfeiffer in September, I quickly realized the dedication and professionalism exhibited by my colleagues in student development," said Dr. Russell Sharples, interim vice president and dean for student development.

"Their commitment to our students is truly extraordinary, and I am so pleased they have received this recognition for their outstanding efforts."

Organized in 1973 by housing professionals in North Carolina, the housing officers association promotes an exchange of ideas and philosophies among institutions with residence hall programs. Currently, there are 57 private and public member institutions, including 16 campuses of the University of North Carolina. The association is associated with the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers.
