LandTrust property management tour Sunday

The LandTrust for Central North Carolina is hosting a property management tour at the Bittenger Farm in southern Davie County on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Bittenger Farm is a 370-acre property on the Yadkin River, near the confluence with the South Yadkin River, owned and managed by The LandTrust as a working farm, wildlife habitat and water quality buffer.

The tour will focus on various management activities currently conducted on the property, including wildlife habitat enhancement, invasive species control, sustainable forestry and agricultural production.

There is no admission for this event. RSVP's are requested. Meet at the LandTrust office at 215 Depot St. at 2 p.m. to caravan to the site, about a 20 minute drive from downtown Salisbury. The event will end at approximately 4 p.m. Participants should dress in warm clothes and be prepared for a moderate hike.

"Land management is one of our most critical strategic functions at The LandTrust, yet it is a part of our work few people know about," notes Jason Walser, executive director of the LandTrust for Central North Carolina. "This tour is not only a way to learn about the various land management activities we undertake on our conserved land, it is also a great way to spend the afternoon on a beautiful piece of property."

Walser notes the Bittenger Farm is part of The LandTrust's "Two Rivers Preserve" project, encompassing more than 2,000 conserved acres, both in land owned by The LandTrust and privately donated conservation easements, around the conjunction of the Yadkin and South Yadkin rivers. The "Two Rivers Preserve" provides critical riparian buffer and water quality protection around the Salisbury water intake.
