CHINA GROVE — Aldermen have agreed on who they want to be the town's next police chief. But they aren't naming that person yet.

Meeting in closed session for nearly an hour Monday evening, the Board of Aldermen agreed on an applicant and instructed Town Manager Bill Pless to make an offer.

Mayor Don Bringle said he is hopeful the offer will be accepted. If so, he said, an announcement will be made later this week.

The position has been vacant for several months following the firing of former chief Hodge Coffield.

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
