Firefighters battled at least two house fires Saturday, including one that left U.S. 601 and West Ridge Road blocked after 9 p.m.
Jolene Martin, a neighbor across the street from the 5025 U.S. 601 blaze, said numerous firefighting vehicles surrounded the scene.
Crews battling the later blaze included Franklin, Jerusalem, Ellis, Woodleaf, Locke and Salisbury units.
Commanders on the scene were trading out crews battling the blaze because of intense heat and the need to replenish oxygen tanks, according to scanner traffic.
An earlier blaze was at 175 Lochshire Lane, which is in a subdivision off Woodleaf Road. No one was reported injured in either fire.
