Memorial service set for teen victims of violence

OutReach Christian Ministries and the Fight For Christ Youth ministry will host a memorial service Friday for three young people slain in Salisbury.

The event is also a "stop the violence ... urging the city to do more for our teens" organizer Deneice Edmonds said in an e-mail.

The service will honor Treasure Feamster, Trey Chambers and Tyron Angle Jr. It is scheduled to begin with a service at 6 p.m. in front of 1028 W. Horah St., where Chambers was killed by gunfire, and continue with a march to OutReach Christian Ministries at 722 W. Horah St.

At the church, speakers will begin around 7 p.m. Organizers said representatives from the YMCA Black Achievers program, Project Safe, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Mothers of Murdered Offspring will be present, along with civil rights activist John C. Barnette, poet Tyiesha Campbell and the Kujamani Drill Team.

Organizers are also soliciting donations for a teen center that church member Deneice Edmonds hopes to start.

Feamster, 13, was shot and killed in what authorities called gang violence following a party March 16, 2007.

Angle, 16, died in an exchange of gunfire May 5 on West Horah Street.

Chambers, 20, died Sept. 16. Police said his brother accidentally shot him.
