Crown In Glory Lutheran Church is celebrating its annual Harvest Home celebration with a songfest today at 7 p.m. The Crown In Glory choir, under the direction of Phyllis Partee, and guest choirs will participate.
The Harvest Home worship services will be held Sunday, Oct. 26 beginning at 9 a.m.
Pastor Donald Anthony will preach at the 9 a.m. service. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. A praise service will begin at 3 p.m., and the Harvest Home worship service will begin at 3:30 p.m.
The speaker for the service is the Rev. Robert Hull, pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Charlotte. Music for the service will be rendered by the Crown In Glory Lutheran Church choir, guest musicians and the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church choir. Soloists are Zelma Davis, Shirley Graeber, Mary Young and Doris Goodman.
Hull served his vicarage at Crown In Glory Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Concord. He and his wife, the former Suzanne Komaromy, are the parents of two sons and one daughter and the grandparents of one grandchild. Both of their sons have received the call for the ministry and are working toward that.
Crown In Glory is located at 517 E. Bank Street. The Rev. Donald Anthony is pastor. Adam DeGroot is vicar, and Phyllis Partee is director of music.
Trinity Baptist
Evangelist Jerry Sivinksty of Starr, S.C., will preach in the 11 a.m. service of Trinity Baptist Church, 735 Klumac Road this Sunday.
Sivinksty is a graduate of Bob Jones University and serves on the board of trustees of the university. He has been an evangelist for more than 38 years.
Before entering the field of evangelism, he founded and pastored the Grace Baptist Church of Starr, S.C. As an evangelist, he has held local church revival meetings in the United States and overseas.
He is the author of a Bible memorization program titled "The Two-Edged Sword Memory Plan."
In 1980, Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wis., conferred upon him an honorary doctor of divinity degree.
Dr. Walter Kirk is pastor of Trinity.
Erwin Temple
COOLEEMEE — In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the board of Christian Education of Erwin Temple CME Church will host a special program and dinner today at 5 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
The keynote speaker will be Betty Godwin, a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Mocksville. Present and past co-chairs of the Davie County Relay for Life and the manager of the South Atlantic Division will be present.
All breast cancer survivors are invited as well as survivors of any type of cancer and all interested persons.
Information about breast cancer and prostate cancer will be distributed.
Oakdale Baptist
SPENCER — Oakdale Baptist Church, 200 Charles St., Spencer, will host a Children's Fall Carnival in the church parking lot today from 3-5 p.m.
There will be games, food and prizes for all. The carnival will also feature pumpkin painting, a huge 18-foot inflatable slide and bounce house for kids to enjoy. The public is invited.
In case of rain, the event will be in the church gym.
Faith Lutheran
FAITH — Faith Lutheran Church will celebrate Reformation Sunday at both of its worship services on Sunday morning. Members have been asked to wear something red, the color of the day.
Pastor Steven Gerhart will deliver the message at the 9 a.m. FaithWorks service titled "Free, But Not Cheap". Holy Communion will be celebrated at the FaithWorks service.
At the 11 a.m. traditional worship service, six of Faith Lutheran's youth will be confirmed with the Affirmation of Baptism rite from Evangelical Lutheran Worship. Being confirmed in their faith will be Christopher Ray Euart, Johnathan Bruce Euart, William Paul Johnson, Autumn Hayleigh Murray, Brittany Elizabeth Norman and Gavin Bost Peeler. Pastor Gerhart will direct his message at the 11 a.m. service to those being confirmed. His message will be "No Longer Shall They Teach," the text taken from Jeremiah 31:34.
The chancel choir under the direction of Don Deming and accompanied by Daisy Bost, will provide the anthem, "Oh Spirit of the Living God." The congregation will be asked to sing with the choir at the appointed time.
Following worship, a luncheon will be provided for the church and the community and to honor the confirmands. The luncheon will be held in the church family life center.
Faith Lutheran is located at 205 S. Main St. in Faith.
First CalvaryFirst Calvary Baptist Church will observe Woman's Day Sunday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Charlene Hendricks of Charlotte will be the speaker. Special music will be provided by a Woman's Day choir and Minister of Music Winnell B. Short.
Hendricks is a native of Inkster, Mich., where she was one of 15 children born to her parents. She is a graduate of the Freedman's Hospital School of Nursing at Howard University in Washington, DC. She also earned a bachelor's degree in nursing and religious study and graduated with a master of divinity degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in religious studies.
Hendricks served as pastor at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church for nine years until her retirement. She currently serves as associate pastor at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte.
The program is open to the public and all women are encouraged to wear white.

New Hope
New Hope AME Zion Church, 1470 N. Long St. Ext., the Rev. M. Alexander Harden, pastor, will observe its annual Woman's Day Sunday at 3 p.m.
The theme is "Women Going to the Next Level." Women in the community will participate on the program and the Livingstone College Gospel Choir will provide music. All women are asked to wear white.
Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited.
The speaker will be the Rev. Carolyn Bratton.
Bratton received a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1982 from Gardner-Webb College, where she was inducted into the Gardner-Webb Athletic Hall of Fame and was also honored as one of the Distinguished Alumni of Gardner-Webb.
She was employed by American Greetings for 19 years. She is married to Bro. Nathan Bratton. She is a mother of two sons and two daughters and grandmother of two granddaughters and two grandsons.
Bratton preached her trial sermon in June 1995 at Zion Hill AME Zion Church in Henrietta, N. C. She was appointed her first pastoral charge to Young's Chapel AME Zion Church in Mooresboro in 1997 (the same year that she was admitted into the WNCC). She served as pastor of Young's Chapel for five years.
She was ordained a deacon in 1998 and received her elder ordination in 2001 by the hand of Bishop Cecil Bishop. She served as the pastor of Shiloh AME Zion Church, Mount Holly for six years.
She has served as the Lincolnton district director of YACM for the Christian Education Department and as district statistician. She also served as the director of the Lincolnton District Youth Choir.
Bratton currently serves as the assistant secretary of the Western North Carolina Conference of the AME Zion Church. She was recently appointed pastor to the Moore's Chapel AME Zion Church in Salisbury June 15.
World Community Day
The Salisbury-Rowan Unit of Church Women United in N.C. will celebrate World Community Day with a luncheon/program Friday, Nov. 7, from noon to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Caldwell St. Individual member churches will also be bringing canned goods for the food pantry of Rowan Helping Ministries.
World Community Day co-chairs Dorothy Gill-Smith and Betty Hutchins, along with Jean Lowery, Ecumenical Celebrations chair, will lead the nationally prepared program with the theme of "God's Wisdom Sets Us Free." This program will cause us to look at the struggles in our own lives as we reflect on how we are called to minister to those behind bars, whether made of steel or of human limitations.
Jean Kennedy is president of the Salisbury-Rowan unit.
All interested people are invited to attend this ecumenical celebration.

Trunk or Treat
MOORESVILLE — The public is invited to the Trunk or Treat party Sunday, 5-7 p.m. in Prospect Park at Prospect Presbyterian Church, 9425 W. N.C. 152.
There will be moon bounces, a petting zoo, hay rides, games and a soup and sandwich supper.
The actual "Trunk or Treat" activity, when costumed children walk from car to carcollecting candy and other goodies, begins at 6:30 p.m.
Everything is free to everyone.
Prizes will be awarded for best-decorated trunks for those who wish to give out candy.

Immanuel Lutheran
ROCKWELL — Immanuel Lutheran Church will celebrate its 113th anniversary Sunday during the 10 a.m. worship service.
Former pastor, the Rev. Glenn A. Yount will be the homecoming speaker with the message titled: "Reformation Then and Now." He served Immanuel from 1949 to 1954. He and his family were the first to live in the church parsonage in 1949.
During Sunday school at 10 a.m., members will view the video titled "Rediscovering God in America." From 10:50-11 a.m., Pastor Bruce Sheeks will lead the congregation in "Know Your Facts about Immanuel." Those who know the answers to the questions about the history of Immanuel will be given a gift.
Special music for the service will include the Children's Choir, directed by Judy Harwood and Delores Daniel; Adult Choir, directed by Nettie Loflin; and solo, "The Lord's Prayer," by Nikki Goodman. Organists are Nettie Loflin and Delores Daniel.
Current pastor, the Rev. Bruce C. Sheeks, will deliver the children's sermon.
After the worship service, members and guests are invited to gather in the church fellowship building for a covered-dish luncheon. During this time, members will have an opportunity to greet Yount and his wife, Doris. The Younts now live in Newton, and they have two grown children.
Trinity Presbyterian
The Women of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Caldwell St., will observe Woman's Day this Sunday at 11 a.m.
The theme for this occasion is "Women of Faith Reach Out."
The speaker for the service is Yvonne Tracey, director of Christian Education at Soliders Memorial AME Zion Church, Salisbury, and vice president of student affairs at Barber-Scotia College in Concord.
Carolyn R. Holmes is moderator of Presbyterian Women.
Solid Rock Church
The Solid Rock Church of God, 1004 Locke St., Salisbury, will be celebrating the first anniversary of Pastor Samuel A. Washington Sunday.
The 11 a.m. service will be at the church with Elder Archie Hunt, associate of the church, bringing the message. Dinner will be served immediately following the morning service.
Evening services will be held at the University Park Baptist Church, 6029 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte. Bishop Claude R. Alexander Jr. will deliver the message. Services will begin at 6 p.m.
The church will be car pooling and van pooling to the Charlotte church. Those who would like a ride or would like to follow them will need to be ready to leave the church at 4:30 p.m.
Providence Church
Providence AME Zion Church will celebrate its second homecoming Sunday. The theme is "When Praises Go Up Blessings Come Down."
At 11 a.m., the congregation will gather on the church grounds for the mounting of a bronze plaque commemorating the dates of the renovation of the church and the construction of a new fellowship hall, both dedicated in June 2008. The first church was built in 1892.
Afterward the church family will march into the sanctuary, where the pastor, the Rev. Harold L. Jordan, will deliver the morning message. The children and youth choir will sing.
Dinner will be served in the fellowship hall at 1:30 p.m.
The Rev. James E. Melton II, pastor of Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church of Concord, will be the preacher for the afternoon service at 3:30. He will be accompanied by the Mount Pleasant church family choirs.
The annual fall revival will be held Tuesday through Thursday. The Rev. Carolyn Bratton, pastor of Moores Chapel AME Zion Church, Salisbury, will be the preacher each night at 7:30 p.m.
Providence is located at 1425 Providence Church Road, Salisbury.
Shady Grove Baptist
EAST SPENCER — The Women's Ministry of Shady Grove Baptist Church are sponsoring its second annual women's conference. It began Friday and there will be sessions tonight and Sunday at 6 p.m.
The speakers are Evangelist Mary Ann Kelly of Badin on Friday, Evangelist Cathy Henderson of Charlotte on Saturday, and Evangelist Tina Wyatt of Salisbury on Sunday.
Registration is not required.
New Zion Baptist
LINWOOD — The New Zion Baptist Church, Linwood, invites the public to celebrate the Rev. Moses Caldwell's 40th year as the church's pastor Sunday.
The Rev. Robert Harmon will be delivering the 11 a.m. message and the Rev. Herbert Miller of First Baptist Church, Lexington, will be delivering the afternoon message at 3 p.m.
Haven Lutheran
Haven Lutheran Church will celebrate Reformation Sunday at its 10:30 a.m. service. The Rev. Edward Harper, interim pastor, will deliver the Reformation message.
The Appalachian State University Brass Quintet will participate in the service and present selections by Bach, Gabrielli,and Pezel. They will also accompany the congregation on the liturgical portions of the service with the newly released brass arrangement of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship, Setting One.
Members of the brass choir are Sarah Storms and Crystal Ritchie, trumpets; Jessica Alexander, horn; Chris Cloud, trombone, and Keegan Watson, tuba.
The prelude for this special service will begin at 10:25 a.m. A fellowship hour beginning at 9:30 a.m. will precede the worship service.
Music for the service will be under the direction of Mrs. Franklin Merrell, organist- choir director of Haven.
Haven Lutheran is located at 207 W. Harrison St. in Salisbury.
New Smith Chapel
New Smith Chapel Pentecostal Church, 8025 Statesville Blvd., will honor national Evangelist Christine G. Cornelius, with services today at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Cornelius is being honored for 55 years of evangelistic ministry and 64 years of church secretary work. Tonight's speaker will be Deacon James E. Brown of the Smith Chapel Apostolic Holiness Church, Cleveland. The other guests will be Pastor O. M. Houston and the Faithful Few Singers of Charlotte, and the Shepherd Church of God from Mocksville.
The speaker for Sunday's 2:30 p.m. will be Evangelist Dian Wilson from Faith Deliverance for Jesus Christ, Statesville, and pastor overseer Virginia Byers. Singers will be from Faith Deliverance Church.
The public is invited.
Henderson Grove
Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 96th church anniversary Sunday.
The pastor, the Rev. Rodney B. Eldridge, will deliver the 11 a.m. message with music by the Mass Choir.
Dinner will be served following the morning service.
The Rev. James Gilliam, pastor of Antioch Christian Church in Winston-Salem, will be the guest speaker for the 3 p.m. service. He will be accompanied his choirs and congregation.
Enon Baptist
Enon Baptist Church will host its first "Hay Day Festival" on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The church facilities will be transformed into a carnival atmosphere for this day of family fun. Events will include a classic car cruise-in (free), hay rides ($2), many children's games and activities ($1-$2 each), including face painting and pumpkin painting and a "pedal tractor pull."
Local musicians will provide free musical entertainment and there will be a craft sale, a yard sale, a silent auction, a blue ribbon pie bake-off (free to enter) and door prizes.
Church members will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, hot and cold beverages and other goodies. All proceeds will support the kitchen renovations in the Family Life Center.
Tables are available for $25 each for those who would like to reserve one for the craft sale. Participants in the pie bake-off and cruise-in are welcome. There is no cost for entering these events.

Mount Zion Baptist
The Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave., will celebrate Shaw University Day Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Dr. Frank B. Weaver will be the guest speaker. He is a graduate of Fayetteville State University, North Carolina Central University, Shaw University Divinity School and Columbia University.
Weaver is pastor emeritus of the Watts Chapel Baptist Church in Raleigh, where he served for more than 30 years. He has also served as teacher, principal, and associate superintendent in several school systems throughout North Carolina and as an instructor at several colleges.
New England missionary Henry Martin Tupper founded Shaw, the oldest historically black college in the South, in 1865 in Raleigh. Shaw is known as "Mother of African American colleges in North Carolina" since it founded North Carolina Central, Elizabeth City State and Fayetteville State Universities.
North Carolina A & T University began on Shaw's campus. Its first president was a Salisbury professor, John O. Crosby, Shaw University class of 1881.
Dr. Clarence G. Newsome is the current president.
Blackwelder Park
KANNAPOLIS — Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, 2299 N. Main St., will hold its annual Fall Festival at "The Park" Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m., with fun for all ages.
The event includes inflatables and cake walks. Mid-way through the event, there will be a drawing for a $50 gas card and other prizes.
The public is invited to enjoy popcorn, candy apples, hot dogs, fountain drinks and all the candy you want. Admission is free.

CHINA GROVE — Highest Praise Family Worship Center, 1700 Bostian Road, China Grove, is holding a free community event, Trunk or Treat, Oct. 31, 6-8:30 p.m.
There will be candy for kids, a cake walk, pumpkin painting and hayrides.
Barbecue chicken
KANNAPOLIS — North Kannapolis Methodist Church, 1307 N. Main St., will host its second annual "BockBock@The Rock" barbecue chicken fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The dinner includes half a port-a-pit barbecue chicken, barbecue slaw, baked beans and a roll.
In addition, raffle tickets will be sold for $2 each for a framed and matted Cannon Mills print from an exhibition earlier this year by photographer Chad Mitchell.
Proceeds from the chicken fundraiser and raffle will benefit the church sanctuary restoration.
AME Zion Church
EAST SPENCER — The Usher Board of Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church will celebrate its 86th anniversary Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
The Rev. Alonzo Williams, pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in East Spencer, will deliver the message. Accompanying him will be the Ushers choirs and congregation.
Also at the service, Kendal Mitchell, son of Andrew and Sandra Mitchell, will be recognized as Junior Usher of the Year. Irene Brooks has been chosen for this year's program dedication.
Bridget Henderson serves as president of the Usher Board.
Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church is located at 920 N. Long St., East Spencer. The Rev. Thomas D. Lee is the pastor.
