Staff report

The pace of early voting in the Nov. 3 election has picked up slightly.

As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 183 voters had cast ballots.

All of the county's 10 municipalities have elections Nov. 3, with a total of more than 50 candidates in the races. And all county voters are eligible to vote on whether to add a quarter-cent local sales tax to pay for a new county jail annex and upgrades to the county's emergency radio system.

The Rowan County Board of Elections began offering early voting at its 130 W. Innes St. office last week. It continues there 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Two other sites in eastern and southern Rowan will be open on Friday and Saturday this week. Hours at both sites will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. These sites are the East Branch Rowan Public Library, 110 Broad St., Rockwell, and the Tadlock South Regional Library, 920 Kimball Road, China Grove.

All three sites will be open Monday through Friday Oct. 26-31. Hours for the sites during that period are:

- Elections Office — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.

- East and South sites — 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 26-30.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
