While attempting to serve civil papers on a 52-year-old Richfield man Saturday, Rowan County sheriff's deputies say they discovered a marijuana-growing operation behind his residence.

Inside a utiltiy trailer, deputies found:

- A large quantity of marijuana hanging from a rope.

- A large quantity of the plant spread out on a table.

- A de-humidifier and lights used to dry the marijuana.

In woods behind the residence at 17670 Stokes Ferry Road, deputies found 2 large marijauna plants, each about 8 feet tall.

The total weight of all the marijuana was approximately 30 pounds, with an estimated street value of $68,350.

Investigators with the Stanly County Sheriff's Office assisted with searching the property because it is so close to the county line.

Deputies charged Gregory Michael Heyer, with trafficking in marijuana, possession with intent to sell marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed under a $25,000 secured bond and is scheduled to make a first appearance in court Tuesday.
