Lutheran Services to buy land in Winston-Salem for nursing home

LSA buys land in Winston-Salem for nursing homeLutheran Services for the Aging (LSA) has signed a purchase agreement for a 14-acre tract of land now owned by Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Winston-Salem.

The Salisbury-based health care organization hopes to build a nursing home there.

This decision comes on the heels of LSA's recent announcement that it had signed a purchase agreement to acquire Elms at Tanglewood in Clemmons, an assisted living residence, and an adjoining 10-acre tract of land that will also serve as the location for a nursing home.

LSA plans to replace its 214-bed nursing home in Winston-Salem with two smaller homes. The sales are contingent on a number of factors, including due diligence reviews.

Goler leaders have expressed an interest in maintaining a partnership with LSA either in the development of the property or by providing support services at the nursing home. At one time, Goler officials considered relocating to the Waterworks Road property, but instead remained downtown, a decision crucial to the revitalization of the neighborhood.

If all goes according to plan, closings on the Forsyth County properties should occur in late December or early January.

Lutheran Services for the Aging is a not-for-profit health care organization operating nursing homes in Salisbury, Hickory, Albemarle, and Winston-Salem; retirement communities in Salisbury and Arden; and an adult day service program in Salisbury. If acquired, Elms at Tanglewood would be LSA's only freestanding, assisted living residence.
