Murder suspect back in Rowan
E-mail to a friendStaff report The Iredell County man who is accused of murdering a dairy worker in western Rowan last month returned to Rowan County Thursday, less than two weeks after he was arrested in Virginia. Balmore Portillo Merino, 38, of 211 W. Lowe Road in Statesville, faces a murder charge. Investigators say Merino shot and killed Parra Policarpio, 43, of 2045 Mount Tabor Church Road, on Sept. 23. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office received information that Merino had fled to Virginia after the shooting. Authorities located Merino in Virginia on Sept. 28. He was charged with murder and held without bond while he awaited extradition to Rowan County. Authorities had responded to a report of a shooting at the dairy farm Sept. 23 on Mount Tabor Church Road, where Policarpio worked. Mirna Del Carmen Guevara, 38, of 2065 Mount Tabor Church Road, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder in the case. Guevara initially provided sheriff's investigators with false information about the identity of the suspect, Sheriff George Wilhelm said at the time. What do you think? Post your comment below. To Maria: : Sunday, October 12, 2008 11:21 AMI'm afraid you're confused. National origin and legal status are two ENTIRELY DIFFERENT TERMS. Its not illegal to be hispanic, black , white...etc. However, it is unlawful to be in this country illegally. What part of illegal do you not understand??

Racist comments online : Saturday, October 11, 2008 8:39 PMWhy should his national origin be a headline story? If your logic were the rule, then the kids who killed the country club dentist would be identified by the headline, "White Youth Murder Local Dentist." You guys probably miss the days when newspaper ran headlines like "Negro Crime Wave Strikes the Piedmont." Get over yourselves and your outmoded white supremacy shtick. The next President and Congress are promoting amnesty anyway, so we will soon have an additional 18 million new LEGAL residents. And guess which party they'll register to vote for when they become CITIZENS? This guy's bad acts should be punished like any other person's crime. His national origin is not a proximate cause of the victim's death.

Food for thought : Saturday, October 11, 2008 6:05 PMWell.....we could all move to Mexico and live a peaceful life. I'm sure theres plenty of room now that most of the residents have relocted across the boarder to The United States and especially North Carolina. We wouldn't have to waste tax dollars housing, feeding, and caring for this man if we would have kept him out of The United States to begin with. But, now hes here and hes our problem to solve. If hes found not guilty he'll be deported and back in The USA with 30 days. If hes found guilty we'll have to keep him up for another 25 years while our tax dollars float his endless appeals process. Its a no win situation. 30 years ago we should have covered the entire border with razor wire, land mines, and sniper towers. That would have kept this invading army at bay....but its to late now.

??? : Saturday, October 11, 2008 2:33 PMSo far, this man has not been proven guilty of anything. Justice needs to be done, and if he is guilty then he should be punished. Yes, he is an illegal alien and that needs to be addressed, too. Doesn't it make you wonder why he was hired without proper documentation? It would seen there's a lot wrong with this picture!

illegal : Friday, October 10, 2008 4:55 PMI don't agree with the headline. Instead, it should read "Illegal Alien Murder Suspect Back in Rowan" This man is an illegal alien, and every effort should be made to promote the dangers of illegal immigration.
