Elana Miles heads RCCC government

Elana Miles of Landis is the new Student Government Association (SGA) president at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Miles was introduced at a recent RCCC Board of Trustees meeting. As SGA president, Miles is an ex officio member of the board.

A graduate of Salisbury High School, Miles is an adult student at RCCC, coming to the college after working as a certified nursing assistant, a truck driver and in retail positions for several years. She is a military veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force.

Miles is a computer information technology student and on track to graduate in May 2010. She was greeted warmly by the trustees.

18 RCCC students receive academic scholarships

Eighteen students at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College have received academic scholarships. They were introduced today during the RCCC Board of Trustees meeting.

Nine full-time students received scholarships of $1,000, while nine part-time students received $500 scholarships. The scholarships are funded through campus bookstore profits. Recipients must have attended RCCC for at least two semesters and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Full-time scholarships

Recipients of 2009-2010 RCCC full-time academic scholarships are:

- Josiah Barnhardt of Concord – arts and science /criminal justice;

- Aaron Cameron of Salisbury – mechanical engineering;

- Karen Isenhour of Rockwell – medical office administration;

- Heather Joubert of Salisbury – radiography;

- John Kluttz of Rockwell – agricultural biotechnology;

- Teresa Pittman of Kannapolis – associate degree nursing;

- Jeremy Proctor of China Grove – arts and sciences;

- Desiree Tate of Salisbury – arts and sciences; and

- Patricia Wayne of Salisbury – associate degree nursing.

Part-time scholarships

Recipients of 2009-2010 RCCC part-time academic scholarships are:

- Abby Creeger of Salisbury – dental assisting;

- John Elliott of Gold Hill – radiography;

- Kathy Franklin of Charlotte – business administration /marketing and retailing;

- Perry Harris II of Spencer – biotechnology;

- Jeremy Livengood of China Grove – industrial engineering;

- Elana Miles of Landis – computer information technology;

- Priscilla Overcash of Cleveland – associate degree nursing;

- Lakiesha Squirewell of Concord – associate in science; and

- Virginia Yost of Mt. Pleasant – associate in science.
