Staff report
Charlotte mayor Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory was in an accident involving the car he was riding in and another vehicle in Salisbury on Wednesday morning.
It was a minor fender bender as he headed to Winston-Salem for a campaign speech, according to a campaign spokeswoman.
McCrory was not injured and is doing fine, spokeswoman Amy Auth said.
He was a speaker at the event, which started at 1:30 p.m.
McCrory was a passenger in a Honda Accord, according to Salisbury Police Chief Mark Wilhelm.
The accident occurred at 12:04 p.m. The Honda was traveling north in the 100 block of South Main Street when the driver made a U-turn and attempted to pull into a parking space on the southbound lane.
A spokesperson said McCrory campaign worker Preston Priester was driving the Honda.
Apparently, Priester, 23, did not make the full U-turn and backed up.
It is unclear whether Priester struck an oncoming Chevrolet sport-utility vehicle or the SUV struck the Honda.
No charges were filed, Wilhelm said.
The name of the driver of the SUV was not available.
