Historic Salisbury Foundation's Annual Preservation Awards Luncheon will be held at noon Oct. 2 at the Salisbury Station.

The event is open to the public, and reservations for the box lunch must be made by Sept. 26. Seating is limited. Call 704-636-0103 to make reservations.

The cost per person is $12.50.

Each year, Historic Salisbury Foundation recognizes members of the Salisbury-Rowan community who have made a significant contribution to the preservation effort in many different areas of neighborhood and commercial stabilization and rehabilitation.

The categories and award winners for 2008 are:

- Commercial Revitalization through Historic Preservation — Critters, Kress Plaza, Queen's Gifts and Rowan Investment Company Inc.

- Private Preservation and Neighborhood Revitalization — Pat Marsh, Andrew and Theresa Pitner, Chuck and Dianne Heidrick, Greg and Gwen Matthews, Sean Meyers and Elizabeth Homan, Jack and Maria Thomson, Randy and Paula Hemann and Fulton Heights Neighborhood Association/City of Salisbury.

- Long-time Preservation Leaders — Foster and Jean Owen.

- Preservation Education and Publication — the "Let's Talk Preservation Slideshow," Salisbury High School, Bill Lee, Pat McGuire, Travis Evans, David Shirley and Kyle Whisenant; "A Victorian Reborn," The History Channel.

- Preservation Craftsmen/Professionals — Keith Collins of Cascade Sculpture; and NAWKAW of the Carolinas.

- Hall House Volunteer Docent Recognition — James Bevels, Nancy Bilson, Leslie Black, Grady Hall, Don Heidt, Rita Kotarsky, Hilda Ramseur and Barbara Upright.

- Volunteer of the Year — Sonny Allen.

Historic Salisbury Foundation, a private nonprofit historic preservation organization, has a mission of preserving, protecting and enhancing the historic architectural legacy of Salisbury and Rowan County.

It has saved and protected more than 90 historic structures throughout the city over the last 30 years. The Foundation owns and operates the Historic Salisbury Railroad Station, Dr. Josephus Hall House and Grimes Mill, all landmark structures for Salisbury, and hosts the OctoberTour of historic homes each fall.
