Tiger World has new exotic big cat on its radar

Tiger World has a new liger cub named Radar.

Tiger World owner Lea Jaunakais has invited the media to see the exotic animal center's new addition — a rescued animal — Thursday and Friday.

Jaunakais says ligers — half tiger, half lion — are the largest and one of the rarest big cats in the world.

Ligers have characteristics of both species and are only born in captivity today.

Radar, a male, weighs 35 pounds and is about 4 1/2 months old. Tiger World has owned him for about a month.

"He was a liger that needed a home," Jaunakais said.

Tiger World, located off N.C. 152 outside of Rockwell, is a nonprofit animal conservation center dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, education and preservation of exotic animals, predominantly big cats. It is open to the public for educational, guided tours.

Radar will be added to the exotic animals on the public tour.

The tours allow visitors to see the animals interact with handlers and run, play, swim and eat.
