ALBEMARLE — You could win $100,000 in a fishing tournament Sept. 24-27 at Lake Tillery.

The Stanly County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Stanly Community College Foundation have joined with the M-Design Group of Oakboro to host the inaugural "Cast for Cash" Fishing Tournament.

With approximately 5,000-acres of sanctuary and more than 100 miles of shoreline, Lake Tillery is a refuge for anglers and fishermen from all over the region.

"The CVB has been searching for new ways to promote Stanly County and its tremendous assets, so we decided to put a 'new-spin' on the way we host our local fishing tournaments," said Chris Lambert, Executive Director, Stanly County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "By taking the same concept as hitting a "hole-in-one" and winning a car at a golf tournament, we are offering up to $100,000 in cash to one or two lucky participants," added Lambert.

Two largemouth bass fish will be tagged and released into Lake Tillery. Each fish will be worth $50,000 during tournament dates and times; Sept. 24-27 from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., each day. The cost to register for the tournament is $10.

Registration is available online at the Stanly County Convention & Visitors Bureau website at www.visitstanly.com or at any of these locations: Bass Pro Shops (Concord), Wal-Mart (Locust), Locust Lumber (Locust), Joe's Bait & Tackle Shop (Albemarle), Hwy. 49 Sporting (New London), Uwharrie Sportsman (Mount Gilead), Min-O-Pon Grill (Albemarle), God's Country Outfitters (Albemarle), and the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce (Albemarle).

Registration for the tournament ends on Thursday, Sept. 17.

"We are so thankful to be part of such an exciting event. SCC Foundation is always looking for ways to enhance the support for our many deserving students. This is a wonderful event that families can share together as they enjoy the many spectacular amenities that Stanly County has to offer," said Janet Sistare, SCC Foundation Director.

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
