City Council approves alcohol sales at Mikey's

Salisbury City Council has approved the sale of alcohol for off-premise consumption at the proposed Mikey's Convenience Store at 1035 Mooresville Road.
The convenience store will be located in a renovated building that used to hold Classic Custom Automotive.
The council approved a special-use permit at its meeting Tuesday. The store is located within a Neighborhood Mix District.
With that zoning, general retail establishments of 3,500 square feet or less require a special-use permit to sell alcohol.
The existing building is 2,700 square feet. The Planning Board also favored the permit by a unanimous vote.
"It should help that corner a little bit," Mayor Pro Tem Paul Woodson said of the convenience store.
Zoning Administrator David Phillips said the store will have driveway access to Sunset Drive and Mooresville Road (N.C. 150).
The N.C. Department of Transportation will install a concrete median on N.C. 150 in front of the store, allowing only a right-out turn onto Mooresville Road for vehicles leaving the store and heading toward Jake Alexander Boulevard.
Vehicles wanting to leave the store and go toward Sherrills Ford Road will have to turn left off Sunset Drive.
