Safrit Park is closed. “It will be closed at least a week due to flooding,” said Karen Whichard, communications director for Kannapolis. Other parks are currently opened but are being evaluated and could close later. Moose Road at Lake Fisher Bridge (near the Kannapolis Intimidators) is closed. “We are continuing to closely monitor bridges, lake levels and streams throughout the city,” according to Whichard. “All of our public safety personnel have been tremendous today in dealing with the weather situation and responding to various calls,” said Whichard. Right now, the YMCA is the only evacuation center in the city, but the American Red Cross is assessing the situation and could open more. KANNAPOLIS NURSING HOME EVACUATION : Wednesday, August 27, 2008 10:42 AMCall me stupid for asking but why does the Nursing home not relocate. 20 years ago I lived directly above the Nursing home and with each bad rain the same thing happens. Though no one can control the forces of nature, Surely these residents deserve better.
