Application forms for the 2008-09 North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship/Loan Program will be available for downloading online beginning Aug. 15Ãat www.teachingfellows.org .

The deadline for students to return completed applications to a teaching fellows liaison counselor in a high school is Oct. 17.

Each teaching fellow receives a $26,000 scholarship/loan from the state, payable in $6,500 annual increments. The full loan is forgiven after the fellow has completed four years of teaching in North Carolina's public schools.

New post for Patchett

Dr. Margaret "Meg" Patchett has been named dean of academic and student services at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences in Concord. Her first day will be Aug. 27.

Patchett has been dean of arts and sciences at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College since 2005. Before that, she was RCCC's social sciences program head and a psychology instructor.

She holds a Ph.D. in industrial gerontology from the University of Akron in Ohio.
