Election 2009: China Grove Town Council hopeful would represent his generation

CHINA GROVE — Brandon Linn thinks it's time his generation stepped up and helped run local government.

Linn, 27, of Kellor Street, is seeking one of three seats on the China Grove Town Council.

With deep ties in southern Rowan, he's currently a police officer in Landis.

"My generation is going to be the future of China Grove. It's best to get in now and learn the ropes," Linn said this week.

His No. 1 issue is to prevent a merger of the China Grove utility system with Salisbury-Rowan Utilities.

"If we go with Salisbury, they will have the upper hand and be able to control us," Linn said, adding that he has talked with a lot of people who feel the same way. "A merger with Salisbury is not in the best interest of China Grove."

Instead, Linn wants the town to work to recruit more businesses and industry that will use more water. "That will be good for China Grove," he said.

And Linn also wants to see the town provide some type of recreation for kids.

"China Grove doesn't have anything for kids," Linn said. He said the proposal by the town's parks and recreation board for a skateboard park would have been a big plus.

The skateboard proposal never get approval of the town board.

Linn noted that Mooresville added a skateboard park next to the police department and it's already paying off with fewer kids getting in trouble.

"We need some type of activity for kids. We need to reach out in the community and let kids know we are there for them," he sid.

A graduate of South Rowan High School, he attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
