Adam Broyles is a museum volunteer who narrates the train ride. Saturday, the 1 p.m. ride was sold out, as the Cub Scouts enjoyed a 25-minute trip around the museum’s 57 acres.
Jorian Stevens, a member of Cub Scout Pack 731, solved the riddle first. He picked up the $20 Gift Station gift card for his pack (which was redeemed in the museum’s gift shop).
Cub Scouts in the museum Roundhouse complete one of four workstations in the process of earning their geography pin.

About 200 Cub Scouts visited the N.C. Transportation Museum Saturday, earning their geography pin and belt loop by completing tasks at several workstations. Cub Scouts then enjoyed a train ride around the museum's 57 acres.

At the end of the train ride, each pack was given a riddle to solve. The riddle focused on something "in the shadow of a field of blue with 50 stars, and red and white stripes. I won't be opened until this date."

The answer to the riddle was 2096, the year a time capsule underneath the museum's flagpole will be opened. The date represents the bicentennial of Spencer Shops' opening.

The museum grounds are located on what was once Spencer Shops.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
