Sheriff's Office arrests two men for

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office arrested two young men Friday for breaking into a half-dozen vehicles on Old Beattys Ford and Johnson Dairy roads in Rockwell.

Jon Ross Gregory, 19, of 806 N. Main St., Salisbury, faces four counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and five charges of misdemeanor larceny.

Charles Cody Strickland, 21, of 200 Grady St., Apartment 48, East Spencer, faces six charges of breaking and entering motor vehicles, five counts of misdemeanor larceny, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia (rolling papers).

Gregory was placed under $15,000 bond and Strickland under $25,000 bond.

Their first appearance in court will be next week.

Victims of the break-ins and the vehicles they owned included Michael Chad Parris, a 2006 Toyota Scion and a 2006 Ford Ranger; Martin Cordell, a 1978 Chevrolet Blazer; Nicole Young, a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe; Tommy Rainey, a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup; and Nancy Shiverdecker, a 1999 Lincoln Continental.

Various items were taken in the break-ins including a radar detector, cash, a cell phone charger, cigarette lighters, tire gauge, flashlights, photographs, four compact discs and a magnifying glass.

In another report from the Rowan County Magistrate's Office, Jeremy Shuping, 23, of 306 Dana Drive, Salisbury, was charged with larceny from a construction site, tampering with vehicle parts, injury to personal property and possession of stolen goods.

He is accused of stealing a 16-foot Bame trailer from a construction site at 1316 Green Heather Drive. Value of the trailer, owned by Trexler Construction, was $1,800. The larceny occurred Jan. 29, 2008.

Shuping also is charged with trying to cut off a catalytic converter from the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer owned by Eloise Mahn. That incident occurred June 23.

Shuping was given a $5,000 bond.
