Dangerfield has been with the Sheriff's Office since 2004. Prior to that, he was a Salisbury Police officer for nine years.
"My family and I have felt the impact of the economy and believe many people just like us need to have representation that is current and relative," Dangerfield said.
One of his priorities, he said, would be promoting new business in the city and encouraging citizens to spend their dollars locally.
Dangerfield, 46, said one reason for running was to gain political experience. It is his first run for office.
Born in West Virginia and raised in Ohio, Dangerfield served four years in the Air Force.
The detective earned an online associate degree in applied science-criminal justice from Kaplan University and is working toward a bachelor's degree in 2010. He also has attended law enforcement academy training.
Dangerfield has coached Y League football for children in kindergarten and first grade. He and his wife, Dawn, have five children and five grandchildren.
The family lives at 1311 Oak Leaf Lane.
Dangerfield will be one of 13 Salisbury City Council candidates for the Nov. 3 election. All five seats on the council are up for two-year terms.
