EAST SPENCER — A woman with a long history of service to the town has filed for East Spencer Board of Aldermen.
Tammy L. Corpening, 44, of 322 Adams St., filed Friday. She's a member of the town's planning and board of adjustments, Cabarrus-Rowan Metropolitan Planning Organization and Transportation Advisory Committee.
Corpening also chaired the East Spencer Community Watch program and ran unsuccessfully for mayor as a write-in candidate in the 2007 election.
"We can't change what we don't acknowledge," she said of her reason for seeking office. "Our time has come to change our way of thinking, what we do, how we do, how others see us."
She said her priorities are youth, citizens and the East Spencer community as a whole. Corpening said she wants to continue the beautification of the town.
She is a former tax accountant with Dow Jones & Co. Corpening earned an associate's degree in accounting from Manhattan Community College.
Corpening is a single parent. Her son, Isiah, 11, will be a sixth-grader at North Rowan Middle School this year.
