The State Employees' Credit Union in Salisbury is sponsoring an Art Supply Drive. As members of the credit union saw budget cuts in the school system, they realized that art classes might not have the supplies they need to operate for the next school year.
The Salisbury branch of SECU will start collecting supplies Monday, July 20, until the start of school in August. They will be delivered to the Rowan- Salisbury School system for distribution. This is not a statewide drive, it is just at the Salisbury branch, located at 1030 Mooresville Hwy.
The following is a wish list compiled by art teachers from the Rowan-Salisbury school system:
Pencils, markers: hand held pencil sharpeners (for colored pencils — can't use regular sharpeners); pencils, pencils, pencils; colored pencils, Sharpie markers, colored markers, crayons.
Paper: index cards — white, unlined; Crayola sketch book; copy paper — any color (for origami, etc.); construction paper.
Basics: scissors, pencil cap erasers, pink or white hand held erasers, clear tape, masking tape, painters' tape, rulers, glue —white, super, heavy duty, any kind; hot glue sticks/guns, compasses, facial tissues for classroom, heavy aluminum foil, plastic containers, plastic storage bags, zip top.
Miscellaneous: yarn — any kind or amount, even leftovers form home projects; large plastic needles for weaving; sponges, acrylic paints — any colors or amounts; beads, buttons; fabric ribbon, silk flowers, wire, any kind of string, any color or amount of felt, fabric; any books with pictures for reference — animals, art, architecture, sports, trees, etc.; tile cutters — new or used; any hand tools — pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, paint brushes, raffia, feathers, glitter, craft gems, craft paint, pipe cleaners, charcoal sticks, watercolor paint.
