The Salisbury City Council will consider awarding a $928,031 contract Tuesday to Ike's Construction for the building of a trackside platform and canopies at Salisbury Station on Depot Street.

The N.C. Department of Transportation must concur with the bid.

Ike's Construction had the low base bid on the project among four bidders tabulated July 9.

The city is paying 10 percent of the cost; the Department of Transportation, 90 percent.

Salisbury City Council meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 217 S. Main St.

In other agenda items, the council will:

- Hold a public hearing on Extreme Motorcycles' request for a special-use permit to allow on-premise alcohol sales.

- Hold a public hearing on proposed changes to the City Code related to sidewalk dining. The changes would extend hours for sidewalk dining and expand areas in front of restaurants and wine shops in which it can occur.

- Consider a budget amendment for $28,519 to reflect the receipt of a 2007 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant.

- Consider a resolution that approves a Supplemental Utility Agreement with the N.C. Department of Transportation for a reimbursement. The state agency will pay Salisbury-Rowan Utilities $440,162 for relocating four segments of the U.S. 70 water line in connection with the highway-widening project.

- Hear about a concept plan and cost estimates for relocating or removing overhead wires, replacing sidewalk, providing pedestrian-scale lighting and planting trees in connection with development of the Railwalk in the Lee Street warehouse area.

- Hear a presentation from the Salisbury-Rowan Service Council.

- Proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month and hear from participants in Summer Camp.

Council meetings are streamed live at www.salisburync.gov/council/webcast.html and shown later on Time Warner Cable's ACCESS 16.
