KANNAPOLIS — Bob Misenheimer has filed for a second term as Kannapolis mayor.

Misenheimer said he is looking forward to getting out and talking with fellow citizens about "our vision for Kannapolis and how we can work together to accomplish our goals."

Misenheimer's first priority as mayor is to make sure the city is attracting more jobs, "at the level our citizens deserve," he said in a statement.

He wants to bring more "good-paying" jobs to the area as well as protect existing jobs.

Misenheimer has served as a member of Kannapolis City Council since 1989 and as mayor pro tem from 2001-2003.

"By serving as a board member on the Cabarrus County Economic Development Commission, I have a great deal of insight into the direction that Kannapolis should be moving and am excited about getting us there," he said.

He is a former volunteer for Northeast Medical Center where he had more than 4,500 volunteer service hours. At the same time, he served on the Board of Member Trustees, Foundation Board of Directors and is a former Auxiliary president.

Misenheimer is also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, where he is a bi-weekly deliverer. He's served on numerous levels of leadership for the Kannapolis Rotary Club.

In June, he was presented the J. Carllyle Rutledge Lifetime Service Award in recognition for years of community service.

He has served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War at Kimpo Air Base, near Seoul, South Korea. He was an educator and principal in both Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City schools for more than 36 years.

Misenheimer has been married to his wife, Bernie, for 52 years and has two daughters and three grandchildren.
