Car runs into Concord Dollar General

A car ran into a Dollar General store in Concord this morning, requiring several nearby businesses to shut down for about an hour.

Concord officials said the store at 507 Warren Coleman Blvd. sustained "structural damage," but "there was no collapse."

Officials also had to shut off gas lines because of a strong odor of gas.

Concord officials did not identify the driver of the vehicle that struck the building around 11 a.m., but they did note no injuries were reported.

Concord units were dispatched at 11:02, and the first unit arrived four minutes later, the city said.

Officials shut the surrounding businesses to check for structural damage and then allowed them to reopen.

The Station 5 Collapse Unit also responded. "Collapse 5 is staffed by six firefighters each shift who are trained" in rescue techniques, city officials said.

The team of firefighters responds to technical rescue situations involving collapsed structures, trenches and confined spaces as well as major auto accidents.
