Gene McCombs files for re-election in Kannapolis

In a prepared statement, McCombs said he was seeking a second term because, "I am committed to continue the transformation of Kannapolis to a world class biotechnical center, increase employment opportunities and maintain our quality of life."

McCombs and his wife Jan are Kannapolis natives who live in the Rowan County portion of the city. They have two grown children and are members of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. McCombs is active in community affairs, is a member of the Kannapolis Rotary Club and served on the Kannapolis Centennial Committee.

He graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in civil engineering. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in Inchon, Korea. He began a career in local government with the city of Greensboro, first as traffic engineer, rising to the position of assistant city manager. McCombs served as city manager for Lumberton and Staunton, Va., and was the first Kannapolis city manager from 1985 until his retirement in 1997.

McCombs, according to the statement, supports a strong program of economic development and the efficient delivery of governmental services without increasing taxes.
