Biotechnology head

Martha "Marcy" Corjay, Ph.D., has joined Rowan-Cabarrus Community College's faculty as biotechnology program head.

Corjay will further develop and lead RCCC's new associate-degree program in biotechnology. RCCC is designing the program to meet the needs of employers coming to the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis.

A resident of Huntersville, she has been a biology instructor at Bluegrass Community & Technical College in Lexington, Ky, for two years. Prior to that, she taught as a visiting biology faculty member at Eastern Kentucky University and as an associate professor in the department of cardiology at the University of Virginia.

Her other experience includes principal research scientist and senior research scientist with DuPont Pharmaceuticals Co., staff fellow with the National Institutes of Health-NINDS and graduate research assistant at the University of Virginia. She has 23 scientific peer-reviewed publications and holds a U.S. patent from her work at DuPont. She has more than 10 years of research and development experience in biotechnology industry and five years of college-level teaching experience.

She earned a bachelor's degree in biology from George Mason University, graduating with highest distinction. She holds a master's degree in biology/genetics and a Ph.D. in biology/molecular physiology from the University of Virginia.
