Staff report
CHINA GROVE — Town officials are pleased with new concrete floor in the town's fire department on North Main Street.
Hemar's Construction of Kannapolis completed work on the project last Friday. It required taking out large sections of the broken floor and pouring an 8-inch-thick section.
The concrete requires 10 days to dry.
All fire trucks are being kept in the parking lot adjacent to the police/fire department until the floor is ready.
Town Manager Bill Pless said the repair went well.
The trucks will go back inside on Monday.
The $17,000 repair is expected to last for a few years, until town officials decide on possible major changes to the public safety buildings.
A committee of town officials has recommended revamping the building, moving the fire department to an expanded south side of the building, taking up the quarters now used by the police.
Officials have also discussed building a new fire department at another location.
Pless said the repair should give town officials time to look at all possibilities.
