Just a thought: : Friday, July 04, 2008 8:39 PM

While the secondhand smoke may not be as bad as the emmisions, it is still a serious factor. People need to be more polite in certain situations. While this is an outside event, there are places that are still inappropiate to smoke without walking away. For example: listening to Faith Idol with my children and nieces. We have asthma in our family (I personally am highly asthmatic). We were sitting on the bleachers, and multiple times had to cover our mouths and noses because of people smoking around us. It is rude. Get up and move away from others to be polite. That is one of the problems with todays society. Common courtesy is out the window. And by the way, 2nd hand smoke is more dangerous than 1st hand smoking. Secondhand smoke exposure causes disease and premature death in children and adults who do not smoke. Secondhand smoke contains hundreds of chemicals known to be toxic or carcinogenic, including formaldehyde, benzene, vinyl chloride, arsenic ammonia and hydrogen cyanide.3 Source: http://www.lungusa.org/site/c.dvLUK9O0E/b.35422/k.7D0B/Secondhand_Smoke_Fact_Sheet.htm

There is nothing in the world worse than an obnoxious smoker that thinks because he has no self control thinks that every body else should have to breath his or her filth. The air is bad enough from car exhaust and truck fumes but people that are so weak that they have to smoke in a crown are to be pitied.

Regarding children and secondhand smoke : Friday, July 04, 2008 4:31 PM

"There are an estimated 150,000 to 300,000 cases every year of infections, such as bronchitis and pneumonia in infants and children under 18 months of age who breathe secondhand smoke. These result in between 7,500 and 15,000 hospitalizations." If you want to know more go to the American Lung Association.

NO PARADE PHOTOS !!!??? : Friday, July 04, 2008 3:14 PM

So many people worked so hard to have a nice float or something in the Faith 4th parade and NOO! recognition. I know that kids are cute on rides and such but this makes no sence!! I hope the Salsisbury Post will get better on these sorts of things. Maybe just maybe it will change next year. Yes. I am one of the ones who worked hard on a float and it probly will be noticed by all the people that were in the parade. Thank you

Smokers. : Friday, July 04, 2008 2:04 PM

Why do folks worry about the smokers so much? It is because they have no respect for themselves much less anyone else? Is it beacuse they litter, have no regard for their children (eg puffing in their vehicles with the kids in the back seat)? Is it because the complain about the price of gas, yet think nothing about spending three dollars on pack to ruin their health and run up the price of health care for everybody else? With the education that we have today concerning cigarettes, it can only be attributed to a lack of education but more likely a lack of self respect!

YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE!!!! : Friday, July 04, 2008 1:12 PM

Look, you must be so unhappy that you have to complain about every little thing. Like they said if you don't like it stay at home in your very own enviroment where things are the way YOU want them. I am not a smoker but my gosh that is very petty especially since you are in an outside enviroment.

it doesn't bother you that people drink around your kids and thats ok. drunks act out and cause harm to others and drive drunk, why doesnt that bother you instead of second hand smoke. i would rather my kids see people smoking than to think its ok to drink. drinking affects other people more than the drinker himself/herself. second hand smoke is less likly to harm you. smoking doesnt alter ones mood to the point he cant control himself. drinking affects everyone that consumes or is around a consumer of alcohol. they don't even know how to control themselves or what they are doing or saying after a couple drinks usually.

Faith : Friday, July 04, 2008 9:16 AM

Today is my birthday, have spent every night at Faith for music, most fun is watcging Adam dance.Anyone who has seen him remembers he and the other kids who are having such a good time. It is strange, I was a little girl when AI started going to Faith, look around and nothing much seems to have changed, except now I am there with my 13 and 19 year old grandsons, too bad we don't last as long as Faith will last, and not change so much.

I'm sure the smoke from a few cigarettes is nothing compared to the emissions from the diesel or gas engines used to supply power to the rides and or for power.is nothing. I think we should worry about the child molesters and pedaphiles more. You cant turn on the news with out a story of some child being molested. But i never hear of a child dieing from secound hand smoke.

Get over it. : Friday, July 04, 2008 8:55 AM

I think you just need to get over it. You should expect to have people smoking when you are at an OUTDOOR public event. You have two choices: don't go if you don't like it or suck it up and deal with it.
