A China Grove man was charged Wednesday with rape and indecent liberties with two children that date nearly 30 years ago.

Arthur Dean Adkins, 51, of 235 Hazel St., was charged by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office with five counts of indecent liberties with a child, first-degree rape of a child and two counts of first-degree sex offense of a child.

One of the victims, a girl younger than 16 at the time, had been abused from January 1979 to January 1980, an arrest warrant said.

The other victim, a girl younger than 13 at the time, had been abused from July 1998 to July 1999.

He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
